week #10 – candids

Week #10 will be one of my favorites, candids. They are my favorite images to capture during a photoshoot or wedding because they show people in their most natural and usually most flattering element. Candids are great because they capture real emotion between your subjects verses the super-posed images…not that I don’t love those too ๐Ÿ™‚ The other reason I love candids is that they are the easiest for your subjects, there’s no adjustment needed to make the pose look natural (this goes for both kids and adults :-).

So this week, try to capture a nice candid moment between your children, your family or friends and send it to me!

Tips/tricks – Like I said, capturing candids are super simple since it’s just snapping pictures of natural moments. However, ย during a photo shoot, it may be hard to relax your subjects that aren’t used to being in front of a camera. So here’s some tips that I’ve found to be helpful. I like to ask my clients lots of questions at the beginning to get to know them and have them do the talking. I do the same for kids, I ask them what their favorite cartoon is, who favorite Disney character is and then I know what songs to sing to them to get them to laugh. Laughing images are the best candids! Then I have them tell each other a secret, or smell each other’s noses…this also creates laughs! For adults, I try to set the mood and have them think of their wedding day, since that’s probably the last time they were photographed together ๐Ÿ™‚ This creates natural smiles and I always snap the shutter right before and after they are ready. That’s when I capture a natural moment verses staged.
